Karaoke Wake,
2023, installation
Text from Second Skin exhibition, curated by Marta Lisok:
This artist seeks ways of dealing with loss and grief. Her work strikes up a dialogue with the tradition of double-warp fabrics, which were often part of a dowry, a present on life’s new path, illustrating joyous village life, everyday chores, and holiday rituals. The mood of these depictions
was always affirmative. Noting there were no depictions of difficult experiences like illness or death, the artist tried to fill these gaps.
In the idyllic iconography of the double-warp fabric we find a collective experience of grief, initiated by the Karaoke Wake project, which involves singing selected songs from a popular set of works about loss and death. The place for this new ritual is marked by plants traditionally used for
funeral rites.
