Living Water
performative dinner, Goyki 3 Art Inkubator, Sopot, 2022
Living Water is a short literary piece that is a conversation with the Swelina stream, which flows along the border between Gdynia and Sopot. The text is based on the form of a dialogue between a student (a human being) and a teacher (the stream) well known from philosophical texts.
The conversation touches on the theme of loss and slow passing away using the example of the gradual drying up of the stream and the rising temperature of its water. The piece asks questions about the various possibilities of understanding non-human actors and describing them in a non-colonial way, takes a closer look at the history of the creek and speculates about its future in order to grapple with various end scenarios.
The public reading of the piece was accompanied by a dinner, the main theme of which were mushrooms collected along the stream, and a discussion on the various experiences of loss and slow dying.
