Roots of Community, performative dinner in collaboration with Tomek Pawłowski Jarmołajew, ssesi.space, Brno, CZ
The ambivalence in the origin of Polish and Czech word garden (pl, ogród; cz, zahrada) acted as a starting point for our deliberations on community.
The event took place in the wild garden of ssesi.space, whose space we made a field for meeting and expanding relationships. As part of it, we invited guests for a plant-based festive dinner prepared by Tomek Pawłowski Jarmołajew. The way of experiencing dishes made from root vegetables, their structural differentiation, but also the metaphorical layer of the ingredients used and their processing guided the participants to themes and perspectives of their perception in harmony with the meeting's objectives. The dinner was accompanied by a discussion of hospitality, community, love and loss. At its various stages, we collectively read excerpts from the bell hooks book “All about Love”, which uncompromisingly breaks taboos related to love, pointing out ways to overcome the fear of intimacy and loss.
The whole event was conceived on the principle of exchange, which could be a healthy practice that allows building a platform for community. The title Roots of Community indicates the creation of a network of support and the expansion of the field of relationships that create the basis for a functioning fellowship.
Project was financially supported by Visegrad Funds and by city of Brno.
